The Great Biofuel Debate
In class, we had a very lively discussion on the pros and cons of biofuel, a fuel that comes from biomass such as plant matter. (woodlandhighag) My team took the side against biofuel arguing that it just wasn't practical or conventional with todays use of fossil fuels. In lab we conducted about fermentation, we measured the amount of ethanol production above a sample of grain with and without the addition of enzymes. Based off our results, I believe that the process with enzymes is more profitable and efficient even though the starting amount of ethanol produced was less than that of the sample without enzymes. The yield was greater in the end, however it was still not a great amount that was produced. This sparked a debate on whether biofuel from fermentation would be very effective and as teams we came up with pros and cons:
